Who We Are

​

The Eagle Valley Arts Council (EVAC) is a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization dedicated to celebrating, nurturing, and promoting arts, culture, and heritage in Sicamous and the surrounding Eagle Valley. Established in 1980, we provide opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to explore their creativity, connect with others, and participate in a vibrant community arts environment.

Our home, the Historic Red Barn Arts Centre, is more than a gathering place. It is a community hub where creativity, collaboration, and local heritage come together. Through our programs, exhibitions, workshops, partnerships, and community events, we strive to make the arts accessible and affordable while supporting local artists and encouraging new creative experiences.

Our Annual Events & Community Initiatives

Throughout the year, EVAC proudly hosts and supports a variety of events that bring our community together:

  • Sicamous Community Banner Project – A collaborative public art initiative inviting community members of all artistic abilities to create banners celebrating Sicamous, its people, history, and community spirit.

  • Eagle Valley Brush & Palette Annual Art Show – Held over the Canada Day long weekend, showcasing the creativity and talent of local artists.

  • Canada Day Free Kids Festival – A family-friendly celebration offering free creative activities, arts, crafts, and fun for children and families.

  • Timeless Painting Club Art & Craft Show and Sale – Held the 3rd weekend in September celebrating local creativity through an inspiring collection of handmade crafts and original artwork.

  • Sicamous Fungi Fest People's Choice Art Contest – An annual artistic celebration held during Sicamous Fungi Fest, inviting artists to showcase their creativity and the fascinating world of fungi.

  • ​National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – September 30 – EVAC hosts community arts and cultural experiences that encourage learning, reflection, understanding, and connection. Through Indigenous-led workshops, storytelling, and creative activities, we provide opportunities for people of all ages to engage with Indigenous culture, history, and perspectives while supporting the ongoing journey of reconciliation.

  • Annual Christmas Art & Craft Market – A two-day holiday market held the last weekend of November, featuring local artisans, makers, and unique handmade gifts.

Beyond these signature events, EVAC supports ongoing art classes, youth programming, cultural workshops, community collaborations, exhibitions, and creative gatherings.

We believe the arts are essential to a connected, thriving community. Through the dedication of our volunteers, members, artists, community partners, and supporters, we continue to create opportunities for creativity, preserve our heritage, and make the Historic Red Barn a welcoming place for everyone.

Our Mission
To advance the public's appreciation of the arts through production of public art exhibitions, presentations, performance arts events and arts festivals, and by providing a forum for qualified artists to exhibit, present, or perform their artistic, cultural and literacy works through participation in such events.To advance education and increase the public's understanding and appreciation of the arts by conducting workshops and classes on various topics in the realm of arts, and by conducting a community choir and amateur theater group for members of the community and the general public.
